Paramus Will Be Second ‘Stigma Free Zone’ in the Nation

Paramus is on its way to becoming the nation’s second ‘stigma-free zone.’

Tuesday night the governing body approved a resolution in support of this community-wide effort to raise awareness about mental illness in order to become a ‘stigma-free zone’ following in the footsteps of Hoboken.

The campaign is spearheaded by Paramus’ very own Mary Ann Uzzi who is a longtime volunteer of the Paramus-based CarePlus NJ. Uzzi presented the mayor with a Paramus Stigma-Free Zone T-Shirt in celebration of the good news.

Many programs and events will be planned in the near future designed to educate people about mental illness helping them to better understand it. The goal is to erase the stigma so that those who do suffer from mental illness won’t be too embarrassed or ashamed to seek help. Read more…
